Der Archivverein hat seine eigene kleine Schriftenreihe mit Büchern um und über Wismar heraus gebracht. Die Autoren schreiben ehrenamtlich, die Lektoren arbeiten ehrenamtlich, dank Sponsoren aus der Stadt und manch einer Förderung sind auch die Druckkosten überschaubar. So fließt ein Großteil des Umsatzes durch den Buchverkauf direkt in den Verein und hilft so, historisches Material aus dem Stadtarchiv zu retten. Ein schöner Kreislauf - wir nutzen die historischen Schriften zum Quellenstudium, Sie lesen fleißig unsere Bücher, verschenken sie weiter, sammeln und freuen sich, wir können die historischen Quellen so den Generationen nach uns erhalten.
Allgemein können Sie die Bücher direkt im Archiv kaufen (bitte vorher anmelden!) oder auch bestellen per Mail, oder im lokalen Wismarer Buchhandel. Haben Sie Nachsicht mit uns, wenn die Bestellungen ein paar Tage dauern - Ehrenamt halt ;-)

The streets of Wismar’s old town centre are characterised by a lively alternation of differently designed façades. By looking closely at these façades, much information about the buildings of the UNESCO World Heritage Site becomes perceptible. Construction and design elements such as stucco and masonry decorations, window structures, roof shapes or wall anchors provide clues to the time of origin and to structural changes. Through restorative examinations, historical photographs and drawings, we can often classify these changes more precisely.
The book is aimed at anyone interested in the building and urban development history of the Hanseatic City of Wismar. The focus is not on the large ecclesiastical and public buildings that dominate the silhouette of the town. This volume deals primarily with everyday architecture, i.e. the residential and commercial buildings of Wismar’s inhabitants.
After an introductory overview of the urban development and building history from the founding of the town to the present day, 34 façades from the period between the 14th century and the 1950s are presented with short texts, photographs and extracts from historical maps.
